Firsts

The past two weeks, we’ve had a lot of new friends coming over to play.  With that, we’ve celebrated often as they each accomplish things they may have never done ever before and definitely not in our home.  We’re building trust in each other, gaining confidence, and learning that love prevails.

9th – I brought home my first foster kittiesWillow and Beck

10th – I scooped cat poop for the first time in a year – gotta love those automated litter boxes

11th – Piper wagged her tail!! SHE LOVES ME!  (Still working on a second time – darn)

12th – Willow came downstairs into Doggieville

13th – Beck let out the softest, most precious, long meow – well, it was sort of pathetic but adorable at the same time

14thZoe “stayed” for 2 mins – 2 WHOLE minutes.

15thBeck and Willow learned their names! or at least responded to them

.       – Piper took a treat!!!!!!!! From my hand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Prob the first in her life

16th – Mattie gave me my first deep kitty wound as she bathed – and her front paws are declawed! Anything’s possible, I guess.

.       – Willow jumped on the couch – a feat as heavy as she is. (We do the stair climber!)

17th – Beck stopped swiping at Zoe (understandable though)

.       – Piper came to my brother and sister

.       – SueAnne waited at the door before coming in. If you only knew how long we’ve been working on this – over 6 weeks!

18th – Willow slept on the bed.

.       – Piper pottied outside! Thank you inventor of the zip line (Abbi’s really glad as she can now have her bed back in the room as that was P’s favorite spot – gross)

.       – Mattie came out from hiding … when called!

19th – I helped give my first kitty shots

20th – Zoe learned “down” … FINALLY!

.       – Piper went around me to the right! on the ground, dragging, but still.

.       – Mattie stopped hissing at Pebbles.

.       – Beck jumped up on the bed and curled up for the night. (Snuggled NEXT to Zoe!)

.       – SueAnne raided the litterbox – yuck

21st Mattie greeted me on the table – way out of her comfort zone.

.       – Piper cuddled with me … without me pulling her on the couch, she asked to come up and I said yes, and she came!!

22nd – Mattie learned that scary places can be conquered while eating.

.       – Piper went on a walk WITHOUT freaking out once at weird noises.

.

And soon … that list will be even longer!! We’re just about all party’d out!

We’re one lighter today.  Only 15 mins into our AAP yesterday, someone saw the fantastic character, adorable face, and snuggly nature in Corky even while he wasn’t on his best behavior at all – barking at every dog, uninterested in any person, and fiestily pulling on the leash.

She came in searching for bird food, but followed close behind as Corky, Zoe and I went to set up.  Almost immediately she was sold but even more so when she heard he adores children (she has a young granddaughter).

I was shocked! Corky is about a year and a half and has been in a foster home since he was two days old!  Along with his foster mom and other fosters, we are thrilled for Corky and hope it will be a lasting adoption for him.  He’s on a two week trial but as the applicant has worked with rescues in the past, they will surely be able to work through his shyness and then we’ll be officially celebrating, singing CORKY’S GOT A HOME, CORKY’S GOT A HOME!

Young Single Handsome Tan Male

Corky is a cutie, isn’t he!

He’s been in a loving foster home where he has absolutely flourished and been doted upon (in other words – SPOILED ROTTEN! ok – not rotten, but you get the idea).  For personal reasons, Corky’s foster mom need time and freedom to recoup and rest with fewer responsibilities.  She sure does love him.  He arrived at my home with great proof – his own crate, beds (yep, more than one), excess  bedding (a whole bag full), favorite toys, bowls, and bags of food!  Goodness, I think everyone else around is going to get jealous!

Though he was a tad shy … for like 2 seconds, he is super joyful now and he shows it – wiggling his entire body wholeheartedly and peering up at you with those big, greenish eyes twinkling with excitement from only about 10 inches from the ground.  Yep, he’s a little character who will be hanging out with us at Bella Cashlin for a while until his foster mama is back on her feet or he gets adopted!! Of course, we’re hoping and praying for the latter!

SueAnne quickly befriended him which is a little weird for her but I like it.  Two chi’s in a pod!  And guess what? HE’S A CUDDLER!!! It’s almost as if it’s a requirement at our place.  I mean, I’ve never known so many snugglers in my life.

For those of you actually interested in the progress of those fosters hanging out and about … well, I apologize for not being very consistent in that area.  Yes, I’ve had some fun posts, but nothing that lets you know what’s going on individually!  So, as we are quite a crew, let’s go one-by-one!

.

SueAnne has the BEST news possible!! She has been ADOPTED!!!!! This precious elderly man came into Petsmart with her daughter buying trinkets for her two when he spotted our dear Sue and rushed over.  He scooped her up, tilted his head and inquisitively asked her name. “Oh, SueAnne,” he whispered, “aawwweee!” He just cooed over her and I knew it was love at first sight. He just couldn’t get enough of her. One of those most precious men that is joyful and endearing to everyone.  He went home, applied, returned to PM the next day and bought several “necessities” including a car seat so she could go everywhere with him! For those of you fosters or shelter workers out there – you can understand how wonderful it is when the perfect person finds your pup or kitty!  She will be doted upon day-in and day-out. Exactly what she wants and nothing more! She’ll be hanging out for another week until he gets back in town and can start the 2 week trial officially! I’m gonna soak it up!

.

Zoe always gets interests at our adoption events and this last weekend was no change.  She got several applications and I’m hoping that one will follow through because I just know they would be a wonderful family for her.  She’s learning stay for a period of time and calm but she can’t get down just yet (neither can Pebbles).  She is such a cutie and I know will give tons of joy and laughter to her adoptive family!

.

Piper is making strides and then falling backwards.  We set up a zip line for her in the backyard to see if that would help her relax a little back there and actually go to the bathroom anywhere but Abbi’s bed and Pebbles’ crate. This will hopefully give her confidence!  She’s coming when called though it’s hard to trust that I want to just love on her. I think she’s got a little bit of separation anxiety but right now she’s just curled up on her bed with Sue. Well, okay – she’s as close to the wall as possible, but it’s a step forward from desperately trying to be invisible under a chair.

.

Willow is merely hanging out for another week and doing her time until she moves onto her forever home. Yep, pretty much the day she was available she was ADOPTED and has merely been counting down the days. I will miss her as she follows me around, loves to cuddle and sit in my lap, and completely ignores the Bubbas’ hisses (I think they’re jealous).

.

Beck was finally introduced to the rest of the gang last night and has done wonderfully.  He’s just walking around with the big dogs like he owns them and it cracks me up.  His favorite spot is in my Asian wooden bucket which holds my throws.  He just settles in and watches the world wisp by until he gets thirsty, when he carefully maneuvers down and around to get a drink – he’s a very thirsty boy!

.

INTRODUCING Mattie!  She’s a gorgeous short-haired black kitty who was given up because she never came out from under the bed.  Right now she’s hanging out in our luxury cat room with fresh water, premium canned food, specialized fitness equipment, and bird’s eye view (guest bathroom) where she doesn’t have too many places to disappear.  But … she’s come and greeted me every time I’ve entered and loves lovin’.

.

And of course – my four.

Well, the Ladies are enjoying the thought that a few will be departing soon though they do like having them around.  Pebbles absolutely adores kitties and if by some mere accident she gets stuck on the side of the pet gate where they aren’t, she wines! Not because she wants to be with me, but with them.  Abbi just likes to take advantage of having more “little ones” to care for.

And the Bubbas, well, their initial curiosity has quickly departed.  They hiss at Willow, I’m sure from jealousy as it’s merely when she’s near me.  There is no issue with Beck so it must be her, it’s gotta be her.  But I mean, I obviously didn’t train them very well – because it’s a HER! They are fine though, adapting nicely.

Good Fun

It always amazes me what I walk in on when I leave the zoo unattended for a while …

I mean … little did I know they were playing one of my favorite games: Where’s Waldo, err Zoe? And without me!!!!!! What’s the deal with that guys, huh?!?! I feed you, I pet you, I love you, I bath you, I give you one-on-one time, I pick up your poop! COME ON!!

Rhino found her first but decided quickly that it was more fun swatting at her and hearing the crinkle sounds!

Then she tried to hide under the chest but couldn’t get her badonkadonk down.

That’s when Pebbles caught her but Zoe used her super speed to run into the wall and become invisible!

Until she felt the pain! Maybe now she won’t start a such a round without supervision!

One might be quick to assume that a home where the pet to person ratio is 9:1 would be practically out of control.  But if you did assume such a thing, you would be a little off base.  Yes there are times when toys cover the floor, tails wag with glee and dogs literally fly over you (well, only Pebbles).  But mostly, the only noise I ever hear is Abbi’s soft snoring (okay, not the entire time, but predominately soft).  Yes, even now …

ZZZZZZZZ …

Abbi is our resident cuddler … self-proclaimed, of course

Probably because she looks so retarded when she snoozes solo
